Smolensk Will Shine with a New High-Quality Light

In the near future, operations will begin in Smolensk to replace street lighting. By the end of March, more than 14,600 lamps will be replaced, 2,000 of them will be integrated into the “Smart City” system.

The corresponding energy service contract was signed on November 15, the customer is the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the city of Smolensk, the contractor is Lighting Technologies ESCO, LLC.

According to the technical specification, all 14603 console lights on city streets, connected to municipal networks, will be replaced.  This will save more than 64% of electricity. Since the lamps are easy to operate, and the contractor gives a 2-year guarantee for installation, and a guarantee for the operation of equipment for the entire period of the contract (7 years), the city will save on the operation of the lighting system. 276 outdoor lighting control cabinets will also be upgraded, and 2000 lighting fixtures on the central streets will receive remote control functionality over wireless networks using the LoRaWAN protocol (integration into the “Smart City” project). It will also bring an economic effect - during hours of high natural light or low traffic at night, the lamps can be dimmed (adjusting their power) from the central control room.

The contract price was determined by the results of the competition, it amounts to 476.1 million rubles, and these funds will be invested by the contractor without the help of the budget. The contractor will receive payment due to the achieved savings in the electricity costs. At the end of the contract, all savings will remain at the disposal of the city budget.

Alexey Anikin, General Director of the contractor, the Lighting Technologies ESCO company: “We have been professionally engaged in lighting engineering projects since 2008, since 2015 we have been implementing them in cities through energy service contracts and we have sufficient experience. Among the latest projects, we can name Ivanovo, Vladimir, Anapa, where our company replaced the lighting, now the project in Kursk is almost finished. I am sure that the people of Smolensk will be satisfied with the new world - the city will be evenly and comfortably lit, we will not only achieve the lighting standards, but in some cases, we will exceed them for the comfort of citizens.”

Installation will begin on November 25, and by the end of March Smolensk will shine in a new light.
