Lighting Technologies ESCO - the First in Russia in the Energy Service to Replace the Lighting of the Regional Roads

In Russia, the first energy service contract was signed in the field of road lighting for regional roads. 

Replacement of lighting fixtures on the regional road of the Ivanovo region will be carried out by Lighting Technologies ESCO.

The energy service contract is a widespread format of cooperation between the customer and the contractor, its main advantage is the ability to replace equipment without attracting investments from the budget, which is extremely popular and convenient for municipalities and other budget customers. The contractor supplies the equipment and performs the work at their own expense, and the customer, in turn, pays for the savings made.

In the Russian market there are companies professionally implementing lighting projects, using energy services. Since this is a special long-term investment mechanism, along with engineering experience, certain project and financial competencies are required here. Lighting Technologies ESCO is one of the companies specialising in this field. Only in 2019, projects were completed to replace city lighting in Nevinomyssk, Anapa, a project is about to be finished in Kursk, one ongoing in Omsk, another project is starting in Smolensk.

In addition to city street lighting for the Russian regions, the difficult situation with intercity roads is also relevant, their insufficient illumination leads to high accident rate.

The customer of the first energy service contract in Russia for lighting of regional roads was the Department of Road Facilities and Transport of the Ivanovo region, guided by successful experience: in 2018, the energy service was used to replace street lighting in the city of Ivanovo, the contractor was Lighting Technologies ESCO. Over the past year, the project has proven its effectiveness: energy savings has amounted to almost 70%, and street illumination has increased by one and a half times, and this has been carried out without budgetary expenditures.

The project of lighting of the regional roads of the Ivanovo region will be implemented under the same scheme. In total, 600 fixtures will be replaced, and the energy savings are estimated at 65%.

This is the first experience in Russia in implementing an energy service contract in the field of road lighting, however, given the attention that is now being paid to the quality of road safety, we expect more new projects.
